Ultrasound Preparation

The following tests require preparation:

Pelvic

  • Finish drinking one quart (32 ounces) of liquids (water, soda, juice, coffee, etc.) 45 minutes prior to exam. Do not urinate.

Endo-Vaginal Exam

  • Finish drinking one quart (32 ounces) of liquids (water, soda, juice, coffee, etc.) 1 hour prior to exam. Do not urinate.

Gall Bladder and Abdomen

  • Clear liquid only if patient has to take medication; otherwise nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
  • No food or drinks 8 hours prior to exam.

Pancreas

  • Clear liquid only if patient has to take medication; otherwise nothing to eat or drink after midnight.

Obstetrical

  • Finish drinking one quart (32 ounces) of liquids (water, soda, juice, coffee, etc.) 1 hour prior to exam. Do not urinate.


NO PREP IS NEEDED FOR THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES:

  • Thyroid
  • Renal
  • Echo
  • Carotid
  • Vascular-Arterial
  • Vascular-Venous
  • Scrotum/Testis
  • Breast
